A true story , once in 1983 while making cheese danish during Mardi Gras time my brothers and myself filled a king cake with creamcheese and pecans and gave it to our mother hot from the oven. She asked what's this and we told her. Well Frances being Frances cut it up and gave it out for samples. Many loved it ( how could you not ) some said that is not a king cake, but they were all curious. After several inquiries about buying one I said that was a prank we don't make that and mom said you do now. So I lost that decision and thats how filled king cake started.
